As time spent in traffic, effect on our health
If you often travel on busy highways, you should think about your health. The transport in the tube is heavily pollute the air! A recent study was conducted to clarify this question. If on the road experiencing the traffic jam, turn off the fan and close the Windows. In this case, you will reduce the impact of harmful emissions by about seventy six percent.
details of the study
the Findings of British researchers relate not only to particularly serious traffic jams during holidays and weekends. Scientists believe that transport can affect your health and ordinary days. In recent years the number of people traveling to work by car has increased markedly. The average person spends per day in the car for about an hour.
the Stats are about the same for citizens of different countries of the world, forced to get to work and return home by car. Think about that at every long stop to close the Windows, and the ventilation is better to include the internal circulation. If air cannot get into the car outside, you will be less vulnerable to the negative effects of harmful substances.
the Problem of dirty air is very serious. It is included in the list of the top ten causes of health problems. About seven million premature deaths every year – here are the results of interaction with contaminated atmosphere. A particularly difficult situation in large cities, where on every major intersection there are pockets of contamination that are becoming more dangerous with the increasing number of used cars. Scientists have noted that drivers caught up in traffic at a traffic light, are subjected to much more severe effects than those who simply rides in the car, because the amount of harmful substances in these two situations differs in the twenty-nine times! In London air pollution kills ten times more people than a car accident. In the United States the impact of dirty air occupies the eighth place among the various causes of death of the population.
Different types of pollution
During the experiments, researchers evaluated different ventilation systems, the impact on the passenger and driver, as well as the differences between the two types of pollution. It turns out that the air can be both small and large chemical particles. They arise as a result of a combination of automobile exhaust, ozone and other toxins in the air. The scientists compared the readings according to the cleanness of the air outside and inside the car in the average town with a small number of residents during rush hour.
the Experiment was divided into five different options, each of which was used as open and closed Windows, turned on or off fan and air conditioning. The main conclusion is that the results are most clearly dependent on ventilation. If you drive with the Windows open in the car the air is the same as the outside. When the Windows are closed and ventilation is off, the pollution maximally reduced. Therefore, if the weather allows, it is best to go just so – with the Windows closed and the fan off. So you limit the impact of emissions during traffic jams on your health. If you have to enable heating of the compartment or the ventilation is good to have the opportunity to choose the recirculation mode, to use only the air inside the cabin. Interestingly, this is not the first time scientists have come to a similar conclusion. In 2013, scientists from the University of California came to similar conclusions. However, only now been evaluated different types of ventilation that allows to make a final conclusion.
